How I Got Into Freelancing and Made Over 1 Lakh in the First Month
This is how I got into freelancing and made over 1 Lakh Indian Rupees in the first month.
In previous posts, I shared how I started my online career with content creation. Then the journey of starting my Tech media brand, growing it to 170k page views, facing Google penalties and again recovering from it.
When all this Google penalty stuff was going on, I consistently thought I should not rely entirely on my Blogging income. There may be months when things go wrong, and I won’t make sufficient money.
It was the time of March 2020, At the same time COVID-19 cases started increasing. The stock market crashed, and companies cut their marketing budget. It all affected my revenue.
I was just recovering from the Google penalty and then the effects of the global slowdown. There was no way I could have survived on Blogging income.
So, I decided to start doing freelancing. The word Freelancing was not entirely new to me. I heard of it in September 2017 while researching to create my YT channel.
At the same time, I created my account on freelance platforms like Fiverr and Upwork. I didn’t have any skills to offer as a service at that time.
But, after almost three years (March 2017-March 2020) in which I worked as a Content Creator and started a Tech Media brand, I managed to build some monetizable skills.
So when I made the decision, I literally took a paper and noted down all the skills I had. After writing the skills, I asked myself which skills I am most good at. The answer was WordPress Development and Content Writing.
I learned WordPress to build my blogs and have been writing Tech content for years. Now everything was all set, so I logged into my Fiverr account the very same day and created my first Gig for WordPress development.
After creating my gig, I started waiting for buyers. I started receiving messages from prospective buyers within a few days. I guess it was mainly due to COVID-19. I received my first order within the first week of creating my Gig. It was for just $5. Yes, I was charging a mere $5 to build a website.
Although the order value was just $5, I made additional income from the first client by sorting out some major issues for him. As soon as I delivered my first order and got a 5-star review, I received my second order. This time I charged $50. I also asked the client to use my affiliate link to buy web hosting, and he agreed.
Within the first month, I completed eight orders. The total income I made from all those orders was well over 1 Lakh Indian Rupees. It included both my earnings on Fiverr and hosting affiliate sales.
This was how I started my freelancing journey and made a significant income within the first month. But again, I made a mistake that cost me my 3.5-year-old Fiverr account with dozens of 5-star reviews. I will share that mistake in tomorrow’s post so some of you working on Fiverr can learn from it and avoid your account getting banned.
Thanks for reading til now. Have a great day ahead!
