My Experience With Different Web Hosting Companies as a Blogger
My experience with different web hosting companies as a Blogger.
In my yesterday’s post, I talked about a common mistake most beginner bloggers make while buying web hosting. Moving forward, in today’s post, I will write about my experience with different web hosts.
As some of you know, I started my Blogging career back in 2017. Actually, I started my online career with a YouTube channel named Technical Ratnesh. After a few days of starting the channel, I decided to start a blog on my channel name. So, I booked my first domain name, technicalratnesh.com, on the 1st of October 2017.
Although I purchased the domain name, I didn’t have any money for buying web hosting at that time. So, I waited for a month and purchased my first web hosting in November 2017 for around 4200 Indian Rupees.
As I had registered my domain name with Godaddy, and I purchased hosting from them only. It was a Deluxe shared hosting plan. I also made the mistake of buying web hosting for one year.
After buying the web hosting, I installed WordPress and made my first blog live. I tried writing some posts, but I wasn’t enjoying it much. Later, I also purchased a couple of domains and hosted them on the same hosting. After a few tries, I gave up Blogging. I had purchased the hosting for a year, and it was useless for me. If I had taken hosting on a monthly basis, I would have paid for not more than three months, and the cost would have been much lower.
I didn’t try Blogging for the next several months and focused primarily on YouTube. Later, in October 2018, I started thinking about starting TechYorker. I purchased the domain name. The old shared hosting was still left for me for about a month or so, but I decided not to go with it this time and purchased a new hosting plan. This time, I learned from my mistakes and did the right thing. I purchased the cheapest Godaddy starter plan and for just one month. It cost me about 150 Rupees per month. After a month, I renewed for another month. When I started getting traffic, I upgraded the plan to the Economy plan. Again, when traffic climbed up, I upgraded to their Deluxe plan. After a few months, when I started getting some more traffic, I upgraded to the Ultimate plan.
But after a few days, even the Ultimate plan could not handle the traffic of my site. I did some research and came to know about VPS hosting. But managing VPS was not as easy as shared hosting, so I started looking for a managed solution.
The Godaddy support team suggested me to go with their Business hosting plan. I upgrade to the business plan and again for just one month. For the first month, It cost me around 1500 Rupees. Now the business hosting was sufficient to handle my site’s traffic.
I was renewing it every month, and for renewal, the cost was approx. 1800 Rupees. I kept renewing Godaddy Business hosting until May 2020. After it, I moved to a new hosting provider, I write about it in detail in tomorrow’s post. So, please stay tuned for that.
That’s it for this post.
Thanks for reading. Have a great day!
