My Experience with Upwork Offering Content Writing Services
My experience with Upwork offering content writing service.
Hi Everyone,
In yesterday’s post I talked about how you can use Upwork to get clients for content writing. You may be interested to know my experience with Upwork so far. So, in today’s post I will write about my journey on Upwork.
I heard about Upwork back in 2017 while doing research about YouTube and Blogging. I didn’t know much about Upwork but I still created my Upwork account. After creating the account I never tried to offer any service back then because I didn’t have any skill that I could offer.
In April 2020 when I decided to try freelancing I logged in into my Upwork account and tried understanding how the platform works. I sent a few proposals on job listings, got a few messages from clients but never received any order. As Fiverr was working out very well for me I didn’t try much on Upwork. As I had received so many messages but didn’t receive any orders, Upwork disabled my account. I wasn’t at fault this time.
Later in May 2021, I created a new Upwork account and started sending proposals. Finally a client got agreed to order my services. I was writing for a data recovery company called iBeesoft. The initial pay was around $12 per 1000 words and after 20% platform fee I was getting just around $10 per 1000 words. I wrote some 20 articles for that client for the next few months. Other than that one client I didn’t find anything on Upwork in 2021.
Later in 2022, I decided to try Upwork again. I started sending proposals. This time I was targeting jobs that were very suitable for my skills. After sending a few proposals I got a client who agreed to pay me $50 per 1000 words. I wrote 25 articles for this client.
I kept looking for more opportunities on Upwork and then found a client whose requirement was articles around Mac. I negotiated with the client and they agreed at $45 per 1000 words. I went on to write around 20 articles on this client as well.
So till today, I have found out three clients for writing on Upwork and made some decent income. Upwork hasn’t worked for me as well as Fiverr but still this is the experience I have with the platform. If I had tried a bit more on the platform things could have been even better.
If you are trying to get clients from freelance platforms you should try out Upwork along with Fiverr. If you write a good cover letter showing relevant samples you may get successful on Upwork.
That’s all I wanted to share in this post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and got some value from it.
Thanks for reading. Have a great day.
