The Mistake Most Bloggers Make While Doing Sponsored Posts

· 4 min read

Most bloggers make this mistake while doing sponsored posts on their blog.

In my yesterday's post, I wrote how you can make money by doing sponsored posts on my blog. If done right, you can make a good amount of money from sponsored posts. However, most bloggers make a huge mistake while picking sponsored posts for their blog.

Due to that mistake, whenever Google releases a new update, their site faces a drop in traffic. I have even seen bloggers whose entire traffic got wiped up after a new Google update. But you don't have to worry about it. As in today's post, I will explain that mistake in detail and how you can avoid it. So let's start.

Suppose you have a blog on which you started getting some regular traffic. You must have a contact form on your site. As soon as there will be some traffic on your blog, you will start receiving emails in which the sender will be asking to publish a post on your blog.

They will pretend like they have a sponsored post opportunity for your blog. They will even get agreed to pay some amount for publishing the article. Typically, the amount they offer is anywhere between $5-100. In some cases, they offer even higher amounts, $100-300, depending upon the traffic of your blog.

As they offer an amount for publishing articles, bloggers think they have started getting sponsored posts. So, they accept their proposal, publish the posts, and get paid.

It is understandable, as most bloggers who are in the early phase of their careers don't make a lot of money from ads or affiliates. So when they get the opportunity to get paid for those posts, they take it as an easy money and get agreed.

But the sad part is those bloggers have no idea that they are ruining their blogs by publishing those sponsored posts on your blog. The main reason behind this is that most sponsored post requests you get are not real sponsored posts but link selling.

You will see that in most requests, the other person asks to publish an article with a do-follow link to their site. They even want the content to get published on one of the authors' names and not as partner content. So basically, no clue of sponsored posts.

Now you may ask how to decide which posts you should publish. The answer is very simple, if that client is comfortable with publishing an article as partner content and also allows to mark the link as do-follow, then only it is a true sponsored post.

If they are not agreeing to it, it means they are in the business of link selling. And if you want to make it big into Blogging, avoid selling do-follow links on your blog no matter what amount you are getting.

Why I am suggesting so? The reason is Google is very smart in detecting those who are in the business of link selling. Suppose you sold a link to someone. Later, Google finds it out that the site you linked to is in the business of buying links. They will penalize that site, and in the process of it, your site will also be affected.

I have made this mistake myself several times when I was just getting started in my Blogging journey. Later, I realized it. Now, I never get agreed to give links and get paid for it.

I will suggest all of you to avoid this mistake. When your blog will grow, you will get real sponsored posts, so wait for it.

For now, that's all I wanted to share in this post.

Thanks for reading. Have a great day!
