How to Find and Identify a Skill to Make Money Online

· 3 min read

This is how you can find and identify a skill to make money online.

If you find yourself in a situation where you don’t have any skill and cannot identify a skill to learn. In today’s post, I have discussed an easy way to find and identify skills.

The easiest way to find those skills is through freelance platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, etc.

Let’s take the example of Fiverr. On the header of the Fiverr website, you will see different categories: Graphics & Design, Digital Marketing, Writing & Translation, Video & Animation, Music & Audio, Programming & Tech, and Business.

All of these are very broad, combining many skills. If you hover over any of these categories, you will see many more sub-categories.

Go through each category and their sub-categories to know about all the skills people are willing to pay for.

One method I use is to start thinking about it from the buyer’s perspective. There is a complete cycle behind those who are buying the services.

Suppose a person wants to start an online business. They may require the services of professionals who are good at Market Research, Creating Business Plans, Legal Consulting, etc. All these services fall under the Business category on Fiverr.

Once they are ready with business planning, the next thing is to make the business live. As it is an online business, it will need a website or even an app depending on the needs of the business. Here comes the next category in action, which is Programming & Tech. They will hire someone who makes websites using website platforms such as WordPress, Wix, Shopify, etc.

While the platform is getting built, it will require a Logo and other graphics. For all of that, they will go to Graphics & Design section.

When the website or app is ready, the next step is to get visitors and potential customers. And that’s where the next category Digital Marketing comes in. There are different services under it, such as Social Media Marketing, Display Ads, Search Engine Marketing, etc. They will hire those who have expertise in Digital Marketing.

Many individual creators, as well as businesses, are creating content these days. There are three types of content: Text, Video, and Audio. If you see there is a category for each of these content types.

The writers are needed for everything, whether an article, website content, copywriting, script of videos, or podcasts. Similarly, businesses are looking for video presenters and video editors. For Audio content, they need voice-over artists, Audio editors.

So as you see, someone starting a business needs services in all the categories as they progress with their business. All you have to do is go through different categories and their sub-categories and decide on a skill you find interesting.

Once you have identified the skill, the next step is to learn it. You can use free content on YouTube. I will also write about how you can learn monetizable skills in tomorrow's post.

That’s for this post. Have a great day ahead!
