How to Analyse Your Competitors to Find New Keywords

· 3 min read

This is how you can analyse your competitors to find new keywords for your blog.

In my last few posts, I explained how you can find untapped evergreen topics for your blog. I suggested using Google Auto Suggestions to find topics.

And in yesterday’s post, I wrote about how you can identify that a topic is untapped. I hope now you guys will be able to find uncovered topics for your new blogs.

Although I suggest all of you to use Google Auto Suggestions to find untapped evergreen topics for your blog, this is not the only way to find such topics. Also, I don’t want you guys to only be dependent on this.

There is one more way that I use to find untapped evergreen topics, and that is analysing your competitors. So in today’s post, I will write about how you can analyze your competitors to get some keyword ideas.

No doubt, using Google Auto Suggestion will give you an edge over any of your competitors, and you will come out with unique topics that no one else has covered. But some topics may miss out on you in the process of using Auto Suggestions, and that’s where this next method comes in.

Make a list of all the competitors within your niche. The list should include the sites which also publish evergreen content. If possible, create a bookmarks folder in your browser and add all those sites there.

Now try to separate some time to analyze what your competitors are publishing. You know, every site owner is working hard to come out with untapped topic ideas.

What you can do is keep an eye on your competitors. If you see one of your competitor sites has published an article on which they are the only site ranking.

In that situation, you should cover that topic, and if not first, you will be ranking on the second position. Even the second position will bring a good amount of visitors.

I personally use this method and have a bookmark folder containing more than 50 evergreen tech sites. I try to visit each of those sites every single day so I can find at least a few topics that I had missed while doing keyword research using Auto Suggestion.

Although I prefer coming out with unique titles, at the same time, why to miss out on other topics that our competitors have found out?

By using this very same method, I am able to rank on dozens of our competitor keywords. On some keywords, we are even ranking on top of our competitors.

However, if you just started your site, then one thing you should ensure is you don’t try to use your competitor keywords if they are derived from trends.

It is simply because your competitors have authority and they can rank on trending evergreen, but as your site is new, those keywords won’t rank immediately, and you won’t get much results out of it.

So this is how you can analyse your competitors to find topics for your blog. I hope you guys will find it helpful.

That’s all for today’s post.

Thanks for reading. Have a great day!
