How to Identify a Topic Is Untapped and Worth Covering
This is how you can identify a topic is untapped and worth covering for your new blog.
In my previous post, I explained how you can use Google Auto-suggestions to find untapped evergreen topics for your blog. I hope you guys understood the method and will be using it for keyword research.
After I published yesterday's post, some of you commented and also reached out to me in dm asking how we can confirm that a topic is untapped from all the researched topics.
It seemed like a genuine question. As I had explained the method to find the large set of topics, but I hadn't touched upon identifying the untapped ones. Don't worry; let me explain it in today's post.
Suppose you have found the keywords using the auto-suggestion method. Now open a new browser tab on your computer and start searching those keywords one by one.
If you see, there are several websites ranking on it with the exact keywords in their title. Also, visit the second page of Google Search and see if still there are websites ranking on that keyword. If yes, it means that the keyword is very competitive. You should avoid those keywords, at least in the initial phase of your blog.
Keep searching the researched topics you have. If you see on a certain topic, there are not many blogs ranking with exact keywords in the title. Also, if the top-ranking pages are from Reddit, Quora, and other forums, then you are looking at an untapped topic.
By untapped topic, we mean that topic is not covered much. So, in the above case, if other sites who are ranking even if they haven't targeted the keyword directly, then there is a high chance that your article, which targets that keyword directly, will have a much higher chance of ranking.
Similarly, if there are Reddit, Quora answers, and other forums ranking. It simply means that the topic has not much coverage. When people are not able to find articles covering a certain keyword, then only they start looking for Reddit, Quora, and other forums.
You can think of those keywords as untapped and publish a really high-quality article fulfilling the intent of the searcher, and there is no way you are not going to rank.
Another confusion many people have is what if there are only YouTube videos ranking on a certain keyword. In my opinion you should avoid those keywords, at least in the initial phase. First, get started with the topics that I explained above.
When you have a certain level of authority, then you can also cover these video-heavy keywords. As you will have built some authority, Google may rank your text-based content above those videos.
So, basically, this is the way you can identify an untapped keyword. I hope now you will be able to find out untapped keywords from all the researched topics you have.
If you guys still have doubts, feel free to reach me; I will help with the best of my knowledge.
That's all in this post.
