In yesterday's post, I wrote about how individual content creators differ from media businesses. In today's post, I will explain when you should start your content creation journey. So, if you were looking to start creating content but weren't sure when you should start, keep reading this post.
If we divide the content individual content creators, create, we will find that the content is basically of two types:
- Entertainment
- Education
Creating entertainment content is not for common people. It is for individuals with special skills like acting, dancing, singing, etc. If you have the skills to create entertainment content, you can get started anytime. There is no such timing for it. As I don't have much knowledge about creating entertainment content, I am not the right person to talk about it in detail.
Coming to educational content, it is something that is for everyone. Almost all of us have some sort of skills, and we can create content to educate others who are starting in this same field. I have personally created educational content, so for this post, let's understand when you should get into content creation.
I have seen many beginners who are just getting started in their career think about creating content. They make this decision solely based on the influence of the lavish lifestyle of other creators. In my opinion, this is not the right way to approach things.
If you are a beginner and have just started your career, focus on learning and practicing skills. No matter where you learn the skills from your college or online education. First, learn some monetizable skills and start selling your time and skills as an employee or a freelancer. You will get a lot of new learnings and experience while working.
After selling your skills for some time, when you think you have enough knowledge, you can share and educate others. Then that is a perfect time for you to get into content creation. Similarly, if you have tried your hands at business and have some experiences from there, then you can create content and share those experiences and educate others.
What I think this is how one should approach content creation. Imagine creating content when you have no experience or knowledge. You will get started seeing the success of others but will soon stop it because you will start lacking content ideas.
Most importantly, don't leave your college, job, or business just for content creation. Creating content is something you can do while studying, working in a job, or doing business. Who leaves their main work for posting content on social media.
If you ask me, I am doing content creation because I think after working for five-six years, I have some level of experience that I can share and educate others. I haven't left anything for creating content. I work primarily on my business Yorker Media and manage a team of 20 and still create regular text and video content.
